The Normans wedding

The Normans wedding photographer - Laura & Adam

There is absolutely no chance that Laura and Adam will be ever forgetting their wedding day! In fact there’s no way that I will be forgetting it any time either, because it really was one of those truly magical days where everything is just perfect. If we start at the venue, we can immediately see what made this day so special. The Normans wedding venue is the stylish wedding barn based outside York, a stunning place to tie the knot, particularly when the weather is playing along too.

Laura and Adam perfectly balanced the natural and rustic styling of the venue, with their own elegant choices of design and décor. The gorgeous pastel colours used throughout the wedding matched the rustic use of exposed wood and brick, creating a truly blissful atmosphere.

Wedding at The Normans outside York

This is not just another beautiful barn wedding. Laura and Adam chose to hold their wedding at The Normans in front of close friends and family. They couldn’t have wished for a better day. This is Laura and Adam’s wedding at The Normans barn.

The couple wanted their wedding day to go their own way, just as they planned.  Laura worked hard on making sure every detail was just right and Adam used his creative talents to design and produce all of the wedding stationery himself including the order of the day sign and cards. Yes he designed it all himself and you can see below what a fantastic job he did! The priority for Laura and Adam was just to make sure everyone had a good time and that goal was certainly achieved. It was a truly beautiful Yorkshire barn wedding. Anyway, here is how it went.

‘We met back in 2006 and had quite a short relationship when Laura had finished school and Adam was at college. We both went our separate ways and continued to study. Then out of the blue on Match.com in 2011, we were both matched to each other. A few messages and a meet up later and we were an item again. I proposed on the 29th February 2016 with a ring donut and small scratch card revealing the question in front of Adam’s shocked family.’ – Says Laura.

A barn wedding in York – The Normans

‘The overwhelming feeling from our wedding day is that it was everything we wanted it to be. The Normans is a beautiful location which we used as a blank canvas to apply our style. The thing that appealed to us was having that control of which suppliers we could use. From the catering to the band and videographer, and of course Michal, we organised everything ourselves.’ – Says Laura.

In the morning prior to this Laura was very calm and enjoying the preparations with her bridesmaids. Her dress was a stunning creation from Bride2B customised by Bridal Alteration Angel with a bespoke veil by Kelly. After an emotional send off Laura got into her vintage wedding car that took her straight where Adam was already waiting.

Clear blue skies blessed the day as the guests started gathering in the barn’s courtyard in Bilbrough outside York, North Yorkshire. I couldn’t help notice the buzz on arrival at the farm to photograph the ceremony and there was no mistaking that a wedding was taking place there.

Wedding ceremony at The Normans

Soon everyone took their seats and awaited the arrival of the bride. Laura arrived in a stunning Virago DeVille aka Cruella ready to walk down the aisle. Laura was being given away by her dad. The ceremony was one of its kind. Dark barn interiors lit up by a wall of fairy lights with plenty of candles provided a spectacular setting for their wedding ceremony.

After the ceremony we headed back to the courtyard where everyone enjoyed the perfect Yorkshire afternoon. A stunning setting in this Yorkshire wedding barn, perfect for a wedding.

Cusworth Hall Wedding - Hannah & Tom

In October last year I had the pleasure of joining Hannah and Tom and photograph their beautiful Cusworth Hall wedding. If you’re from Doncaster then you know the place.

I love this his 18th-century Grade I listed country house in Cusworth not just for being one of the best wedding venues in Doncaster. We spend a lot of our family time at Cusworth Park and I know it throughout. Back to the wedding then…

Cusworth Hall Wedding

This is how it happened in Hannah’s own words:

‘We met whilst both working for Sugar Ray’s (pizza takeaway) and both at school. We have been together ever since, attended the same University and watched one another grow. In 2015 Tom proposed to me in my childhood home.

In 2018 we decided it was the right time to get married. We had both finished University and were ready to get ahead with our life plans. We were quite uncertain about most of the details for what we wanted our wedding to be but all we knew was that we wanted to get married with as little fuss as possible.

We chose local businesses and tried to make everything as intimate/ fuss free as possible.’

Wedding ceremony

Everything came together perfectly on the day. The weather was great. Everybody managed to attend and everything ran as smoothly as a wedding could run and Hannah’s Grandad gave her away.

Wedding reception

Hannah and Tom had their ceremony in Cusworth Hall and then went next door to the 1086 Brewery where they had speeches and a rustic buffet supplied by local businesses at the Doncaster Market. After a few hours the couple said their goodbyes and drove away to the Yorkshire Dales where they had hired a cottage; it had a Wood- fired Hot Tub with the most amazing view. Just perfect!

Michal (our photographer) certainly added character on the day, jumping into bushes to get the perfect shot and making us feel really comfortable. He was more than accommodating to our wishes and exceeded our expectations. We didn’t have the most conventional wedding but it was certainly perfect for us- Michal’s photos help remind us of the most special day.

Priory Place Wedding - Nikki and Rob

Today on the blog is Nikki and Rob’s Priory Place wedding in Doncaster. Here is how it all started:

We met at the gym in the summer of 2012 and started dating. We started to plan our future together and bought our forever home in 2016. Then whilst on holiday in Fuerteventura in 2017 Rob surprised me on my birthday 19th September by getting down on one knee and proposing. We wanted an intimate wedding day with family and close friends. We decided to organise everything ourselves to add a personal touch. With the help of our family and friends we set up the wedding venue the night before, with all of our handmade decorations. – said Nikki and Rob.

Nikki spent the morning getting ready with her mum Janet, sister in law Renata, maid of honour Kerry and man of honour Craig. Nikki’s friend Michelle arrived bright and early to do her make up before they all went to Massons Hair Salon where Andy Masson did their hair and set Nikki’s veil.

My sister in law had kindly decorated my brothers Range Rover and he came to collect me and my dad to take us to the wedding. Rob was getting ready with his best man Dave and friend Steve who no doubt calmed his nerves with a few jokes! – says Nikki.

Doncaster Priory Place Wedding – Nikki and Rob

Great Kitchen at Priory Place, the new Doncaster register office ceremony venue, was the location for Nikki and Rob’s wedding vows. It's one of my favourite places to get married in Doncaster. With their special song playing (Bonfire heart), Nikki’s dad walked her down the aisle and gave her away to Rob.

We felt the love and support of everyone in the room as we were wed. It was so nice to go out into the courtyard in a confetti shower to celebrate with everyone. – says bride and groom.

After the confetti and group photos there was enough time for some bride and groom’s portraits in the courtyard at the back of the Great Kitchen as well as outside the Mansion House.

The couple had a champagne reception at Colosseo, a local Italian restaurant, followed by heartfelt speeches from the maid of honour, best man and the groom.

Our wedding breakfast was superb, Mass the owner of Colosseo worked hard with his staff to make sure everything was perfect and our guests were looked after. We wanted a relaxed day where we could soak in every moment and that we definitely did!
And then the perfect end to a perfect day, Rob and I went for a walk around the lakeside.

In the evening we went to the Lakeside area to catch the sun setting behind the horizon.

While the sun was setting we had that time alone together to reflect on our special day.
Michal discreetly captured those precious moments and the whole day for us so we could relive it again and again through his detailed photographs.

The Alnwick Garden Wedding - Natalie and Sergio's outdoor wedding

When Natalie and Sergio first contacted me about their wedding at the Alnwick Garden I knew it was going to be a very special day. Carefully planned by the couple every single detail was perfect.

Outdoor wedding at the Alnwick Garden

It was actually the fist outdoor wedding ceremony held at The Alnwick Garden. Outdoor weddings are always so beautiful. Though you always have to keep the weather in mind. But for Natalie and Sergio’s big day the weather was gorgeous.

This day two families from Scotland and Spain came to celebrate Natalie and Sergio exchanging their vows. Under the spectacular hornbeam arbours at this unique Northumberland wedding venue located in the heart of Alnwick, these two said ‘I do’ after a few touching readings in both English and Spanish. After an emotional ceremony we headed for some family photos just outside the main fountain cascade. What more do you need to get some beautiful wedding photos of the bride and groom on their wedding day? A perfect backdrop.

Wedding reception at the Alnwick Garden Pavilion

The reception was held at the pavilion overlooking the grand cascade. With its glass walls and panoramic views over the garden it was a truly unique setting that resulted in beautiful photos.

Of course there was time for some sunset photos after the speeches. When the sun got lower we went for a short photo walk around the garden.

Wedding photography at the Alnwick Garden

A wonderful celebration of marriage of two fab people who celebrated their wedding at The Alnwick Garden. Natalie and Sergio chose me as their wedding photographer. I could tell you about the stunning dress or the prettiest flowers but take a look at the photographs and soak up the laughter and the love.

It wasn’t the only time I met these two at a wedding though. Some time later we met again at Natalie’s brother’s wedding in Edinburgh. If you want to see Bridget and Martin’s wedding then please check this post – The Barn at Harburn wedding.

Wedding details

Both bride and groom were getting ready at The Village Farm Cottages in a small village of Shilbottle near Alnwick. The day started very emotionally when Sergio read out a letter from Natalie that went:

Good morning my Spanish monkey,

I never thought in my dreams I could meet a man like you nevermind being so lucky as to call you ‘my husband’. You truly are my best friend, you make my world complete and you are the reason why I can love someone so much. Your laugh makes me laugh and your amazing smile makes any of my bad days beautiful again. I can’t wait to start a new life together and continue to be with you and me against the world. I love you so much with all my heart.

Your wife to be.

It only got better and more emotional when during the ceremony Natalie read her vows to Sergio:

Sergio,

I promise to give you my love and my friendship, to be there with you when you need me the most, co laugh with you, to cry with you, to confide and trust in you, to comfort and support you, to share all that I have with you, to respect you and to be faithful always. I promise to stand by you in every stage of live whether things are good or bad I promise to never leave you. Your home will be my home, your bed will be my bed and your children will be my children. I promise to be your partner, your lover, your biggest fan and your best friend until I breathe my last breath. These promises I make to you for the rest of my life.

I love you.

Yorkshire Wedding Barn - Selin & Adam's winter wedding

Selin and Adam got married at the Yorkshire Wedding Barn in Gilling West just outside Richmond in North Yorkshire. What an amazing day, It was a fantastic winter wedding with amazing blue skies and golden January sunshine.

The boys started the day with groom preparations in a cottage back in the village. Selin and the girls spend their morning in a gallery room at the barn few minutes walk away. After getting ready the boys decided to walk to the barn as it was just a few mins walk. Before they got there though,  Adam could not resist a quick pint with the lads at the local pub, The White Swan.

Winter wedding at the Yorkshire Wedding Barn

The weather was crisp but not cold, the most important thing was that it wasn’t raining or even worse, snowing! Adam arrived at the barn with the groomsmen in good time along with the guests. Selin only had to walk down the stairs as her room was located above the ceremony room but they used the back door and stairs so that Adam could not see her and the bridesmaids making a precession up the to barn front doors.

Selin was incredibly lucky that day as she got to walk down the aisle… twice, before she was finally given away to Adam by her dad. A little smoke alarm sensor in the building decided to play a trick on the couple and decided to go off just as Selin looked at Adam when walking down the aisle. She did get there in the end and this gallery if my wedding photography evidence that these two did tie the knot.

It was a great day, the staff at the Yorkshire Wedding Barn were fantastic, the weather gods were looking down on us and it was a pleasure to work with Selin, Adam and Jon from S6 Photography on this incredible wedding.

Laura and John's Prestonfield House wedding in Edinburgh

I got super excited about Laura and John’s Prestonfield House wedding in Edinburgh the moment I received the enquiry. Named the wedding venue of the year 2017 in Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders, Prestonfield House is often described as Scotland’s most glamorous and romantic hotel.

It is also situated on grounds at the foot of Arthur’s Seat. Therefore I knew straight away that we’ll have to go there for Laura and John’s wedding portraits. Luckily this adventurous couple loved the idea and didn’t mind the cold December weather. In fact, as Laura said herself:

‘Jacky had planned to propose to me at the top of Ben Nevis (he loves outdoorsy stuff and is super fit). He decided to do a trial run by taking me up a Traprain Law and I was in tears half way up…back to the drawing board for poor Jacky! So he ended up taking me to our favourite hotel in Glasgow and proposed to me there. Again, it was almost postponed as my ring nearly didn’t arrive in time! It was perfect. I didn’t need to be airlifted off the side of Ben Nevis so that was a bonus haha. So making it up Arthur’s Seat on our wedding day was lovely.’

Prestonfield House Wedding

The couple planned their wedding in just 2.5 months and they absolutely smashed it. Prestonfield House looked fabulous on the day and the Christmas decorations added even more charm.

‘We had planned to get married after Jacky came home from his deployment this summer but we decided we wanted to get married before he left. So it was all hands on deck to plan a winter wedding in 2.5 months! Our main priority for the day was make sure little Jack could be a special part of it. We knew we didn’t have the time to plan a big wedding. With it only being a few weeks before Christmas we did not want to put that pressure on our friends and family. We decided to have a small, intimate wedding as it suited our time frame and I guess our personalities best. Neither of us are huge fans of being the centre of attention and the thought of a first dance in front of hundreds of people terrified us!’

Wedding ceremony at Prestonfield House

Both ceremony and breakfast rooms looked amazing and the eucalyptus garland by the talented florists at Sweetpeas Floral Design accompanied by some candles and candle sticks added this extra spark. Jacky wore his military uniform and Laura was sporting a beautiful dress designed by Ben de Lisi with a long veil by Britten Weddings.

‘Jacky always knew he would get married wearing his military uniform. I had fallen in love with my dress online months before I even knew we were going to get married so soon. We chose Jack’s kilt to best match his Daddy’s. It was definitely difficult at first for me planning a winter wedding. I had always imagined us having a rustic summer barn wedding with a live band…So the thought of getting married possibly in the snow with a Christmas tree in the ceremony room to a while to get my head around. But I think I managed to make it work 🙂

We viewed a few venues prior to our wedding but as soon as we walked through the doors of Prestonfield House we fell in love. The attention to detail was impeccable and we knew Jack would love the resident cat and peacocks! In the end, every detail of our day was perfect and we would not have changed a single thing.’
