Selin and Adam’s wedding at the Yorkshire Wedding Barn was the kind of winter wedding that reminds you why this venue works so well all year round. Set just outside Richmond in North Yorkshire, the barn gave us blue skies, crisp January air, and golden winter light — absolute dream conditions for wedding photography.

As a Yorkshire Wedding Barn wedding photographer, I always say winter weddings here have something special about them. The light, the layout, and how close everything is makes the day feel relaxed and unrushed — even in the colder months.

Groom Prep in Gilling West & a Relaxed Morning

The boys started the day with groom preparations in a cosy cottage back in the village, while Selin and the girls spent their morning getting ready in one of the gallery rooms at the barn, just a few minutes’ walk away.

Because everything at the Yorkshire Wedding Barn is so well connected, the lads decided to walk over together. That plan very nearly went smoothly… until Adam couldn’t resist stopping for a quick pint with the boys at The White Swan before heading up to the venue.

From a photography point of view, mornings like this are ideal. No rushing, no long drives between locations — just calm, natural moments that photograph beautifully.

A Winter Ceremony at Yorkshire Wedding Barn

The weather stayed crisp but kind — cold enough to feel seasonal, without rain or snow to worry about. Adam arrived at the barn with the groomsmen in plenty of time, greeting guests as they arrived.

Selin had one of the shortest walks to the ceremony I’ve ever photographed. Her room was located directly above the ceremony space, but to keep things a surprise, she and the bridesmaids used the back stairs before making their way to the front doors.

And then came a moment none of us will forget.

Just as Selin looked at Adam while walking down the aisle, a smoke alarm sensor decided to join the ceremony. After a brief pause (and a lot of laughter), Selin made her entrance again — and the second walk down the aisle was just as emotional as the first.

Proof they officially tied the knot? The photos say it all.

Why Yorkshire Wedding Barn Is Perfect for Winter Weddings

Having photographed multiple weddings here, it’s easy to see why couples love it — especially in winter:

  • Ceremony, prep, and reception spaces are all close together
  • Beautiful natural light inside the barn
  • Minimal walking outdoors in colder weather
  • A warm, intimate atmosphere that still feels spacious

It’s exactly why the venue regularly features on my list of the best wedding venues in Yorkshire, and why couples planning winter weddings are drawn to it.
